Best Classic Fiction Works

Image from the law of attraction book list featuring all major law of attraction authors at lawofattractionproject.com

A break from the usual spirituality theme of this blog today, partly because I want this post to live on my site for reference purposes, and partly because I know you all don’t read only spiritual stuff.

Though currently I read much more nonfiction than fiction, as an English and History major with a focus in the classical period, I’ve spent a good amount of time in classic novels, plays and poetry, too.

In fact, for nearly ten years, I read classic fiction almost exclusively. I tracked my reading in dated lists and carefully refined my collection. What follows is a result of those efforts: a list of the finest fiction classics I’ve encountered. All of these books are culturally and historically important, and the majority are also a lot of fun to read.

Two caveats: One, my focus in these lists is clearly on English literature. Two, I have not read all of the books in the Younger Readers sections—yet. This is the classics reading list I will use with my (homeschooled) children, and I look forward to going through them when the time comes.

In order to better facilitate contextual understanding, I have listed the works in chronological order. I plan to read them in roughly this order with my family.
