In Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, she describes a very wonderful, very simple meditation an Indonesian guru once taught her. It goes like this:
1. Sit down.
2. Be totally still.
Smile deep, deep down. Even smile with your liver.
I need to learn how to do this, really, really bad.
Another book I read recently agreed about the importance of this simple act. It said that smiling actually triggers happy brain chemicals, and that people born without this ability feel a great deal of depression throughout their lives.
So. Smile. Smile more than ever. Smile even when you don’t really feel like it.
Especially when you don’t feel like it.
